I woke up in the am to go for a run. As I took in the area around our hotel, my first thoughts on Portugal were that it wicked run down and dirty. I don’t mean dirty with trash but just that if you look up you can see a layer of filth covering most of the buildings. You can tell the buildings are just really old and were beautiful many years ago but now are falling apart and not being maintained. I ran to Parque Eduardo VII which isn’t a good park for running but neat to see. It is basically a plaza with a garden of hedges in the middle with wide sidewalks on either side. It is built on a hill and at the top are these two matching monuments. The city is very hilly in general. When we drove in we saw this huge statue of Christ in the distance up on a hill and the castle downtown is also up high.
