Today Adrienne and I met up with Brittany and Amanda and walked through the park. We rented a row boat at the pond in the middle which was a lot of fun! It was only for 45 minutes which was plenty of time for each of us to have a turn and tire our arms out. After a boat journey, we kept walking through the park. I hadn’t realized but the main center of Madrid is in walking distance from us. It is definitely a long walk but walk-able none-the-less and that is such a pleasant change from the norm!
Poor Brittany was in so much pain. She fell last week and re-irritated a back injury she has had. You could tell she was struggling so much with just walking. She is taking this week off and I really hope that helps her out because I would hate if she was sent home.
Next we saw the bear and strawberry tree statue which is apparently a known symbol for Madrid. The statue was smaller than I was expecting. I’m not quite sure what the symbolism and meaning of it is especially since Strawberries don’t even grow on trees but I did like it of course because you can’t really go wrong with bears.
We met Mauricio and his niece, Danni, at a restaurant called Wagaboo. Galen has been attached to Mauricio all week since they are rooming so he showed up too. The kitchen was going to close soon so we had to decide quickly what we wanted. This was such a stressful endeavor for me: I hate not knowing what things are; the menu was all in Spanish and Mauricio was translating some but we were so pressed for time he couldn’t take his time explaining things. I saw some people at another table eating this chicken dish which looked good so I had Mauricio inquire about but of course they had run out of that one. He ordered me this chicken noodle dish. I was scared though; as absurd as that sounds. People probably think I’m crazy ughh which I hate. Amanda commented on how picky I am later and I hate that people here think of me as so picky because I don’t think of myself as being that bad! My food ended up being really good. It tasted similar to chicken lo mein so I really had no reason to have gotten so worked up.
