Hey Spaniards can you please stop this whole siesta thing?

So I just can’t seem to adjust to the eating schedule over here. Everyday I end up being hungry when everything is closed and there is no food in sight. Hopefully I will master the art of the siesta soon because this is only week one of eight in Spain!

Today, Adrienne, Brittany, Mauricio, and I stayed in Bilbao and went to the Guggenheim Museum. This structure is really the only noteworthy thing Bilbao has going for itself. When it was built in 1997, it reinvented the city and helped bring in all the business it has today. I loved seeing the Guggenheim! It is such a crazy looking building. My favorite part of going there was seeing the building itself. In the gift shop, I was looking at a book on the architect Frank O. Gehry and found it so mind blowing because the structures he designs are amazing but from looking at his sketches you would never know what was coming. He had impeccable visions in his head but on paper the Guggenheim resembled a big mess of scribbles!

Right now there is an exhibition called, “Art in the USA: 300 Years of Innovation.” It went through all the different art movements and trends chronologically which was neat. I really liked the older periods where they used such details and life like qualities in the pieces. A lot of the more present day works were so modern and I don’t always like modern contemporary pieces. I did like the pop art section and saw a Andy Warhol that looked exactly like one that I have seen at Kippy’s place in Maine.

After a couple hours we were starved and I was losing interest out of hunger. Nothing was open though. It is so weird to me seeing all the restaurant closed mid day. We walked a couple block and then back tracked and went into the Guggenheim snack bar which only had a few pre-made things out on the counter. After that Mauricio went back in to finish the last two rooms and us girls went outside to get more pictures of the building from the other side of the river.
